- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- Optional: Herbs (e.g., rosemary or oregano)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine 1 cup warm water with 1 tsp sugar. Sprinkle 2 tsp active dry yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it’s foamy and bubbling.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 cups all-purpose flour and 1 tsp salt.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the yeast mixture and 2 tbsp olive oil. Gently stir until just combined.
- Dump the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Fold in 1 ½ cups shredded cheese and any herbs until evenly combined.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough, shape it, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
